Mississippi Coastal Home

This project is for a couple retiring in Bay St. Louis, MS who intend to promote an active lifestyle of gardening, cooking, photography and even motorcycle repair.  The vibe they were interested in is a light neutral, but warm aesthetic that promoted wellness.  The home is designed to promote as much natural lighting and ventilation in the common social spaces of the house, through raised (electrically motorized) windows via a long roof top extension.  This is to promote high breezes that direct ventilation upward, which is better for cooling in the hotter months.  The site is a large square with streets located on two (opposite) sides, however main façade of the home is rotated 90 degrees to face garden space of the yard rather than directly onto the street, thus making it more visible from both (street sides) and better oriented toward the predominate breezes.  The home is designed to intentionally display many of the artifacts the owners have collected over the years.  An abundant number of planters are placed on multiple levels of the home, so that the owners, who (obviously) have green thumbs can actively pursue their gardening habits not only in the yard, but up in the interior areas of their home to maximize the biophilic benefits.
